The fountain was created in 1619 by Giovanni Caccini and is dedicated to the Florentine patron saint, John the Baptist. The fountain features a bronze porcelain statue of a wild boar, the symbol of Florence. The statue was created by Pietro Tacca and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Florence.
