Gwalior is a city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is located in the Gwalior Region of northern Madhya Pradesh. The city and its fortress are located on an isolated rocky outcrop, 300 meters above the surrounding plains. The city has a population of 1,073,189 (2011 census). The city is the administrative headquarters of Gwalior District and Gwalior Division. It is also the headquarters of the Gwalior Police Range and the Gwalior Military Division.
