Junagadh Gir National Park, also known as Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, is a national park and wildlife sanctuary in the Junagadh district of Gujarat, India. It is home to the Asiatic lion and is one of the last remaining habitats of the species. The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1965 and covers an area of 1,412 kmĀ² (545 sq mi). It is located in the Gir-Somnath range of hills, in the Kathiawar peninsula. The park is open every day of the year from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The park is a popular tourist destination, with many visitors coming to see the lions.
