History of Senate Square
Senate Square is located in the center of the Macau Peninsula and is considered the most important public square in the territory. The square was initially known as Praça da Alfândega (Customs Square) because the Portuguese Macau Customs House was located there. The square was renamed Praça da República (Republic Square) after the establishment of the Portuguese Republic in 1910. The square was renamed again to its current name in 1975 to commemorate the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

Senado Square is located in the heart of Macau's downtown area. It is easily accessible by foot from most major hotels and casinos in the city. There is also a public bus stop located nearby, and the square is within walking distance of the Macau Ferry Terminal.
