Global Vippasanna Pagoda

The Global Vipassana Pagoda is a monument dedicated to the teachings of Vipassana meditation. It is located on a hill near the Gorai creek, in the northern suburb of Mumbai, India. It was inaugurated on 14 February 2009 by Pratibha Patil, the then President of India. The pagoda was conceived and is being built by S. N. Goenka, a teacher of the Vipassana meditation technique. The building is constructed with white marble from Rajasthan. The pagoda has a seating capacity for 8,000 people and is designed in the shape of a Buddhist stupa. It has a meditation hall, lecture hall, library, and a museum. The pagoda is open to the public from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.
