Murshidabad is a city in the Murshidabad district of the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the administrative headquarters of Murshidabad district. It is also the birthplace of Wajid Ali Shah, the last Nawab of Awadh. The city is situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of Kolkata.
