The North Sikkim district is one of the four districts located in the north-eastern part of the Indian state of Sikkim. Geographically, it is the most remote and least populated district of Sikkim. The district headquarters is located in the town of Mangan. The district is bounded by the Tibet Autonomous Region to the north and east, by the Darjeeling district of West Bengal to the south, and by the East Sikkim district to the west. The district is traversed by the Teesta River, which forms the natural boundary between North Sikkim and East Sikkim. The district is mountainous and hilly, with the main ridge of the Himalayas running along its eastern border. The district is home to a number of high-altitude lakes, including Gurudongmar Lake, Khangchendzonga Lake, and Tsongmo Lake.
