History
Rome Ostia Antica is a large archaeological site located 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) from Rome, Italy. The site is the remains of the ancient port city of Ostia, which was founded in the 7th century BC by the Romans. Ostia served as a major port for the Roman Empire and was home to a large number of Roman citizens. The city was heavily damaged by a series of earthquakes in the 4th century AD and was eventually abandoned. The site was excavated in the 19th century and is now a popular tourist destination.
