About Anantapur Anantapur is a city and the district headquarters of Anantapur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is also the mandal headquarters of Anantapur mandal in Anantapur revenue division. According to the 2011 census, the city has a population of 478,704. The city is located at 13.8Ā°N 78.1Ā°Eļ»æ / 13.8; 78.1 on the Deccan Plateau, about 420 kilometres (260 mi) southeast of state capital Hyderabad. Anantapur is a major business and commercial center in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. It is also a major agricultural center with rich cotton, silk and granite resources. The city is known for its hand-woven silk sarees called Pochampally ikat. The city is also home to the famous Anantapuram Temple. Anantapur is one of the fast-growing cities in the country and is expected to be the third most populous city in the state by 2021.
