About Maheshwar Maheshwar is a town in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is located on the banks of the Narmada River. The town of Maheshwar is an ancient one, dating back to the 7th century BC. It was the capital of the Malwa kingdom, and is mentioned in the ancient epic, the Mahabharata. The town is also mentioned in the works of the Chinese traveller, Hiuen Tsang, who visited India in the 7th century AD. The town is home to a number of temples and shrines, including the ancient Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Meenakshi Temple. The fort of Maheshwar is also an interesting attraction. Maheshwar is also a centre for the manufacture of cotton textiles.
