History of Neermahal
The Neermahal is a palace located in the heart of the Tripura Sundari Temple complex in the city of Agartala, the capital of the Indian state of Tripura. The palace was built in the early 1930s by the then king of Tripura, Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, as a summer palace for himself and his family. The palace was designed by the well-known architect, Sir Robert Tor Russell. The name Neermahal literally means "water palace" in Bengali, as the palace was built on the banks of the Kings' River, a tributary of the Gomati River. The Neermahal is a beautiful white marble palace and is said to be the only palace in the world built on water.
