Deoghar is a city and municipality in the Santhal Parganas division of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Deoghar is the second most populous city in Jharkhand after Ranchi. It is also the administrative headquarters of the Deoghar district. The city is located on the banks of the river Bahera, a tributary of the Damodar River. It is a religious place for Hindus and is known as the Baidyanath Dham, being the site of the ancient temple of Baidyanath. The city is also home to the Vaishnava temple of Baba Nath and the Jain temple of Parasnath. The economy of the city is based on agriculture, with rice and other crops being grown in the area. There are also some small-scale industries in the city. Deoghar is connected to the major cities of India by road and rail. The Deoghar Airport is located in the nearby village of Madhuban.
