The Chora Museum, also known as the Church of the Holy Savior in Chora, is a Byzantine church located in the Kuruçeşme neighborhood of Istanbul, Turkey. The museum is noted for its mosaics and frescoes, and as the location of the tombs of the Byzantine emperors Manuel II Palaiologos and John VIII Palaiologos. The museum is open everyday except Mondays from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Admission is 10 Turkish Lira. The best way to get to the Chora Museum is by taking the Golden Ferry from Eminönü. The ferry ride is about 10 minutes and the museum is a 5 minute walk from the pier.

History of Chora Museum

The Chora Museum is an art museum located in the Edirnekapı neighborhood of Istanbul, Turkey. It houses a large collection of Byzantine art, including mosaics, icons, and frescoes. The museum is named after the nearby Chora Church, which was in turn named after the Greek word for "countryside". The museum was founded by the prominent Byzantine scholar and collector Hagia Sophia Vatinos in 1978.
