About Lohagad Fort
Khandala Lohagad Fort is a hill fort located in the Lonavala region of Maharashtra, India. The fort is situated on a hillock at an altitude of 1,033 metres (3,389 ft) and is surrounded by a dense forest. The fort was originally built by the Maratha Empire in the 17th century and was used as a strategic fortification to protect the kingdom against the Mughal Empire. The fort was captured by the British in 1818 and was used as a prison camp for Indian freedom fighters during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
