About Tiruchendur Sri Subrahmanya Swami Devasthanam
Sri Subrahmanya Swami Devasthanam is a Hindu temple located in the town of Tiruchendur in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to the Hindu god Subrahmanya, also known as Murugan and Kartikeya, the temple is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state. The temple complex covers an area of about 15 acres (6.1 ha) and is surrounded by high walls. The temple has a five-tiered rajagopuram, the gateway tower. The temple is approached through a series of mandapas, or pillared halls. The inner sanctum houses the image of Subrahmanya, depicted as a six-headed youth. The temple is open from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The temple complex is also home to a number of other temples, including the temples of Vinayaka, Murugan, and Shiva.
