Passport renewal process in India

A passport is a document that is issued by a national government as a proof of the identity and nationality of the holder. It is also a travel document that allows the holder to travel to foreign countries. A passport may also be used as a form of identification in certain countries. 

 

There are different types of passports that are issued by different countries. The most common type of passport is a regular passport. This is a booklet-style passport that has 32 pages and is issued to adults. A passport book is also a booklet-style passport, but it has 48 pages. A passport card is a credit-card-sized passport that is issued to adults and is valid for international travel by land or sea. A passport book and passport card can be used together as a “joint passport”. 

 

A passport can be renewed at any time, but it is recommended that you renew it at least six months before the expiration date. In order to renew your passport, you will need to submit a passport renewal application, a passport photo, and the applicable renewal fee. 

 

In India, passport renewals can be done through the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or the Indian diplomatic mission or consulate in the country of residence. 

 

The process for renewing a passport through the PSK is as follows: The first step is to gather the required documents. 

 

You will need your old passport, two passport-sized photographs, and the application form. The application form can be downloaded from the website of the Indian Passport Authority.

 

The second step is to fill out the application form. Be sure to fill out the form completely and accurately. Incomplete or inaccurate forms may lead to a delay in the processing of your application.

 

The third step is to submit the application form and the other required documents. You can submit the application in person at your nearest passport office or send it by mail.

 

If you are submitting the application in person, you will need to pay the application fee. The application fee can be paid by cash, demand draft, or cheque. If you are sending the application by mail, you will need to pay the application fee by demand draft or cheque. If you submit the documents by post, you will need to send a self-addressed stamped envelope. 

 

The fee for renewing a passport is Rs. 1,500.

Once the application is submitted, it will be processed and a new passport will be issued. The processing time can vary depending on the location of the passport office, but it typically takes about four to six weeks.
