Gujarat is one of India's most dynamic states, with unique sites that define various aspects of its heritage. Anand, located on the banks of the Sabarmati River and approximately 72 kilometres (45 minutes) west of the state capital, Gandhinagar, is one of such explames and plays a significant role in defining Gujrat's economic prosperity.
Anand is also known as the "Milk Capital of India" as it is one of the largest producers of milk in India. Anand is the home of Amul, one of the world's largest dairy cooperatives. The economy of Anand is based on agriculture, dairy farming and trade.
To understand Anand’s historical and demographical significance, the area around Anand was probably settled by the Jat people of the Solanki dynasty in the 11th century. The area was then part of the Vagad region. It was later, in 1914, that Anand was founded by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was then the Home Minister of the Bombay Presidency. The original name of the town was Karamsad, after Sardar Patel's father. The name was changed to Anand in honour of Mahatma Gandhi's "Anand Ashram" in Wardha.
The place is worth exploring, and listed below are some of the places that will make this weekend gateway a promising one.
