Spend a quality time at Shaniwar Vada

Spend a quality time at Shaniwar Vada View Gallery - 10
Well, we already have a special place for Shaniwar Wada after the movie Bajirao Mastani. I wanted to know more about the place for myself personally.

The Shaniwar Wada was originally the palace of the Peshwas, the prime ministers of the Maratha Empire. The Maratha Empire was founded by Chhatrapati Shivaji in 1674, and the Peshwas were his successors. The Peshwas were the hereditary administrators of the empire, and the Shaniwar Wada was their administrative center.
The Shaniwar Wada was built in 1732 by the first Peshwa, Bajirao I. It was expanded by his successors, including Peshwa Madhavrao I and Peshwa Narayanrao. The fort was destroyed in 1818 by the British after the Third Anglo-Maratha War, and it was not rebuilt.

The Shaniwar Wada was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004 and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Pune.

Take a evening walk at the Koregaon Park

Take a evening walk at the Koregaon Park View Gallery - 10

Next on the list is the Koregaon Park. It was originally occupied by the Brahmin families who were transferred from the old city to the new city during the Peshwa period. The area was known as Koregaon Bhima and was famous for the battle of Koregaon Bhima, fought between the Marathas and the British East India Company in 1818.

In 1871, the British government constructed a rest house in Koregaon Park for the use of the Viceroy of India. The rest house was later converted into a hotel and was known as the Koregaon Park Hotel. In the early 1900s, the area started to develop as a residential area, and the Koregaon Park Hotel became a popular venue for social events. Later, in the 1960s, the area underwent a major redevelopment with the construction of new residential buildings and the opening of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) office in Koregaon Park.

It was during the 1980s that the area became a popular tourist destination with the opening of the Osho Ashram in Koregaon Park.

Go for a trekking at the Sinhagad Fort

Go for a trekking at the Sinhagad Fort View Gallery - 10
One of Pune’s ancient landmarks, the Sinhagad Fort, dates back to the 16th century by the Adil Shahi dynasty. The fort was originally called Kondana and was renamed Sinhagad after it was captured by the Maratha warrior, Shivaji Maharaj, in 1670.

The fort was in a strategic location as it was situated on a hill overlooking the city of Pune. It was used as a military stronghold and as a base for Maratha campaigns against the Mughals. The fort was captured by the British in 1818 and it was used as a military barracks. The fort was abandoned in 1864 and it fell into disrepair. The fort was restored in the 1970s and since then it has become a popular tourist attraction.
