Igatpuri is known for Vipassana International Academy, where ancient technique of meditation is taught called Vipassana. The place is one of the best places to visit in Maharashtra in monsoon. It is a hill station on busy Mumbai-Agra NH-3 only 45 km from Nashik and 130 km from Mumbai.
Igatpuri is a town and hill station in the Western Ghat mountains of Maharashtra, western India. The huge Dhamma Giri academy is dedicated to the teaching of Vipassana meditation. At its entrance stands Myanmar Gate, a golden pagoda. North, hilltop Tringalwadi Fort has a small temple. Southeast, trails lead up to Kalsubai Peak. The surrounding Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary is home to leopards and deer.

vaitarna Dam
Built on the Vaitarna River, Vaitarna Dam near Igatpuri is a gravity and earthfill dam. The dam, a popular tourist destination, offers a spectacular view of the beautiful Western Ghats. The dam, which was constructed in the early 50's, is the chief source of electricity and water for many parts of Mumbai.
