About The barpeta satra Barpeta is one of the most ancient places of Assam and is situated at a distance of about 55 km from Guwahati. It is popularly known as the land of the Satras. The Barpeta Satra is the most famous and the biggest Satra in Assam. The Satra was founded by the great Assamese saint, Srimanta Sankardeva in the 15th century. It is also the place where the great saint spent his last days. The Barpeta Satra is famous for its beautiful architecture, sculptures and paintings.
