About Hawa Mahal
The Hawa Mahal (translated as the Palace of Winds) is an enchanting, five-story palace located in the heart of Jaipur, the capital city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. The palace was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, and it is now a popular tourist destination. The exterior of the palace is covered in a striking pink sandstone, and its nine-arch facade is adorned with intricate carvings. The Hawa Mahal was originally designed as a royal palace for the women of the royal household to watch daily life and processions in the street below without being seen. The palace has a unique ventilation system that allows cool air to circulate through its many tiny windows and balconies. The Hawa Mahal is open to the public from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and admission is free.
