About Gingee Fort

The Gingee Fort is located in the Gingee taluk of the Viluppuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is also known as the Fort of Vijayanagara, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort is situated on three hills, the last of which is about 400 feet high. The fortifications spread over an area of 9 square kilometers. The fort was built by the Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century, and was captured by the Marathas in 1750. The British took possession of the fort in 1761. The fort is now in a state of disrepair.

Gingee Fort is a hill fort located in the town of Gingee in the Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu, India. The fort is also known as the "Fortress of Gingee" or the "Fort of Thiruvannamalai". The fort is built on three hillocks: Rajagiri, ChinnaGiri, and Bommagiri. The fort is surrounded by a moat and is entered through a gateway on the southeastern side.
