The Bhimbetka rock shelters are a group of caves located in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, about 45 kilometers (28 mi) south of the city of Bhopal. The caves contain paintings, rock art, and carvings estimated to be around 30,000 years old, which make them some of the earliest known examples of human art.
