About Kangra Kangra is a city in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is the headquarters of the Kangra district. Kangra is located in the Kangra Valley, on the left bank of the Beas River, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Dharamsala. The town of Kangra is a religious center for Hindus and Sikhs. The city is also known for its fort, the Kangra Fort, which was built by the Rajputs in the 10th century. The fort is now a museum. The city is also home to the offices of the Tibetan government-in-exile and the headquarters of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
