About Tinsukia
The Tinsukia district is a district of the Indian state of Assam. The administrative headquarters of the district are located at Tinsukia. The district occupies an area of 2,898 square kilometres (1,118 sq mi) and has a population of 1,308,819 (2011 census). The district is divided into four revenue circles: Tinsukia, Doomdooma, Digboi and Margherita. The district is known for its tea production. The Digboi oil refinery, the first in Asia, is also located in the district. The district was created on 1 April 1989, when it was split off from the Dibrugarh district.
