The museum was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, on 2 October 1982. The museum has a collection of artefacts related to the life and work of Jawaharlal Nehru. These include books, manuscripts, photographs, letters, and other items. The museum is open from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and from Saturday to Sunday from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
