Vacation means an increase in calories, thus it is always good to balance it with some healthy food before you reach your destination. Trust me, you do not want to get sick at the beginning of your journey. So while traveling it is always advisable to carry some healthy snacks for those quick hunger pangs. This not only helps in avoiding unnecessary stops but also keeps you from eating unhealthy food. Considering the critical situation we are in, it is definitely advisable to carry food from home while traveling. Here’s a list of healthy snacks that can be made and packed easily.

Makhana/Fox Nut/Lotus seed

Makhana is a magical nut. It's light, airy, and packed with the goodness of health. A perfect snack for weight watchers. This snack has everything our body needs. Regular consumption of makhana not only improves the digestive system but is also a great source of antioxidants that helps in anti-aging.

Travelers must include this in their diet, as it helps in frequent urine problems. With an endless amount of benefits, makhana is very easy to pack and quick to make. My mother taught me this very simple recipe of roasted makhana which I am going to share.

In a pan add half a teaspoon of ghee (clarified butter), once it melts add a cup of Makhana. Roast them on a medium to low flame for 5 - 7 minutes. They will start turning into slight golden brown. Switch off the flame and sprinkle some salt. Transfer it to an airtight container and enjoy this healthy snack on your journey.

Granola Bar

A guilt-free dessert, and a perfect treat for a sweet craving soul. This wholesome bar is packed with fruits, nuts, and grains. One bar is equivalent to a meal and is really simple to make and tastes delicious.

To make these delicious bars you would need, rolled oats,  walnut kernels, almonds (roughly chopped), sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, seedless dates, and honey as a natural sweetener. Dry roast all the nuts and seeds and make a paste of dates. Combine everything together by adding honey and date paste. Store it in an air-tight container or shape them into a bar.

Granola bars make a perfect snack to carry for a trip. It has also been the most favorite snack for people who love to hike.

Peanut Butter Sandwich

This sandwich is my personal favorite, especially since I started making my own healthy version of peanut butter which is with jaggery. A thick spread of peanut butter on a piece of bread is pure love and I bet no one can resist this super yummy sandwich. It is a good source of protein and is another quick snack to pack for travel. Peanut butter is easily available in the market but as we all know it is always good to consume homemade products. Thus sharing my recipe of healthy peanut butter with Jaggery.

Dry roast a cup of raw peanut, remove the skin after roasting, transfer it to a blending jar, and make a fine powder, add a tablespoon of jaggery powder, and a pinch of salt. Blend all this together till it forms a luscious creamy texture. And there you go with your freshly made peanut butter. Apply it on a slice of bread and pack it in a silver foil for your trip.

Khakra

Khakra a very famous snack from Gujrat. It is a thin crispy cracker that looks like a chapati/roti. It has a very long shelf life which makes it a perfect snack for traveling. I totally fell in love with this snack the first time I had it. My best friend is from Gujrat, so earlier she would always pack these on my way back home. But nowadays this snack is quite popular all over India and is widely available. Khakra makes a yummy savory. So do not forget to add this healthy snack on your next trip.

Fruits

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Fruits are easy to carry and have the highest amount of health benefits. But do not pack cut fruits, and while carrying make sure you wash them. They not only fill your stomach but also enriches your health on the go.

So this is my list of healthy snacks which you must carry for future trips. And do not forget to drink plenty amount of water. While traveling it is very important to stay hydrated. Stay healthy and happy travels!
