Observe the details of Patan

Observe the details of Patan View Gallery - 6
The ancient city of Patan is another important place to visit while in Gujarat. The city is well-known for its Hindu and Jain temples. Vanraj Chavda, the first king of the Chavda dynasty, is said to have founded the city in 745 AD. Patan served as the Chavda kingdom's capital until the 12th century, when the Chavda dynasty was deposed by the popular Solanki dynasty.

Aside from its many historical sites, Patan is best known for Rani ka Vav (the queen's stepwell), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a stepwell with intricate carvings that was commissioned in the 11th century AD by Solanki dynasty queen Udayamati. The stepwell was erected in honour of her husband, Bhimdev I. The stepwell is said to have been built by the queen to provide water for her husband's cattle. The stepwell is 60 meters (197 feet) deep and has seven stair levels. It is embellished with sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses as well as scenes from everyday life.

The Rani ka Vav stepwell is an architectural marvel in the shape of a subterranean temple complex. It is a rectangular structure with 71 steps that lead down to the water level. The stepwell's walls are intricately carved with geometric and floral designs. Sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses adorn the well.
The site is a visual treat, and it takes nearly a day to fully appreciate the intricate detailing.

Get Spiritual at Somnath View Gallery - 6
If Patan is famous for its Jain Temple, the city of Somnath is known as Gujarat's temple town. Somnath, located on India's western coast in the Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval, is considered one of the holiest places in India by Hindus. Somnath is said to be the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas and Shiva's holiest shrine. The temple is known as the "Shrine of Someshwara" and is one of Shaivism's twelve Jyotirlingas, or holiest shrines. Somnath is an epithet of Shiva that means "Lord of the Soma."

The temple of Somnath is said to have been destroyed and rebuilt numerous times throughout its history. The current temple, which was built in 1951, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The moon god Chandra and his consort Soma are said to have built the first temple in Somnath, hence the name.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the Somnath temple, which is a popular pilgrimage destination.

Enjoy the Surreal Rann of Kutch

Enjoy the Surreal Rann of Kutch View Gallery - 6
If you think Gujarat is all about historical evidence, you're mistaken. Gujarat is one of these places that takes pride in its landscapes as well. The Rann of Kutch is one of the examples that provides one of the most surreal and exotic sensations in India. The Rann of Kutch is a large area of salt marshes in the Thar Desert of Gujarat, a western Indian state. It covers approximately 9,000 square kilometers and is divided into two sections: the Great Rann of Kutch and the Little Rann of Kutch. The Great Rann of Kutch is an almost entirely uninhabited salt desert. It is approximately 7,500 square kilometers in size and is located in Gujarat's Kutch District. The Little Rann of Kutch is a wetland area with a diverse wildlife population. It is approximately 1,500 square kilometers in size and is located in the Surendranagar District of Gujarat.

The Rann of Kutch has long been inhabited by humans. The region's first inhabitants were hunter-gatherer tribes who lived there during the Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods. The Indus Valley Civilization flourished from 3300 BC to 1300 BC in this region. Following the demise of the Indus Valley Civilization, the region was ruled by a succession of Hindu and Muslim empires.

In the late 1800s, the Rann of Kutch was developed as a salt mining area. In 1875, the British Raj established the Kutch Salt Commission to oversee mining operations. Following independence in 1947, the Indian government took over the mining operations.
The Rann of Kutch is now a popular tourist destination and is home to a large number of salt lakes and is a popular spot for bird watching.
