History of Nagaon
The history of Nagaon goes back to the time of the Ahom Dynasty. The Ahoms were the first dynasty to rule over Assam and parts of present day Arunachal Pradesh. The Ahoms came to Assam in 1228 AD and ruled for over 600 years. Nagaon was an important part of the Ahom kingdom and played a significant role in the history of Assam.
