MAJOR MOUNTAIN RANGES YOU SHOULD VISIT IN INDIA

India is a land of huge natural diversity. From snow-capped mountains to dry deserts and sandy coastlines, the natural landscape is as diverse as the culture and tradition of the nation. All these mountain ranges will show you the different impact's of weather conditions, lifestyle, religious beliefs, and economic development of the country. There are many famous mountain ranges in India. Here, I will let you know the must and should visit famous mountain ranges in India .

1. THE HIMALAYAN MOUNTAIN RANGE

The Himalayan Mountain Ranges is 2,400 kilometers long and wide they flow through India, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and Pakistan. It starts from the River Indus in Pakistan and ends near the River Brahmaputra in India. The top view of this mountain range from space, looks like an arch. Mount Everest is the one of the highest mountain in the world.
States under Himalayas : Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir
Best Mountain ranges to visit in Himalayas : Outer Himalayas (Shivalik) , Greater Himalayas, lesser Himalayas, Triund Hill, Dainkund peak, Chitkul, Jalori pass, Jakhoo hill, Kufri fun world, Friendship peak and there are many other mountain ranges to explore.
Rivers originate in the Himalayan range : Ganges, Indus, Saraswathi, Yamuna, Yangtze, Ganga-Brahmaputra, Yarlung, and Nujiang.
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, heii skiing, yak safaris, hiking, gondola rides.
Best time to visit : December to march.

2. THE WESTERN GHATS

The Western Ghats is 1600 kilometers long. These mountain ranges have been declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site for their biodiversity. These Ghats are home to 7402 species of flowering plants, 6000 species of insects, 1814 species of non-flowering plants, 508 species of birds, 179 species of amphibians, 290 species of freshwater fishes, and 139 species of mammals. These ghats are believed to been formed 150 million years ago.
States under Western ghats : Gujarat to Tamilnadu, traveling through Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala. 
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, heii skiing, yak safaris, hiking, gondola rides.
Best mountain ranges : Anamudi - kerala, Meesapulimala- The 2nd highest peak of the western ghat, Doddabetta -Niligiri Range, Kolaribetta peak-Mukurthi National park,Kadikkadu peak.
Major Rivers originate from Western Ghats : Cauvery, Godavari, Krishna, Tungabadra, and Tamirabarani.
Best time to visit : October to May.

3. EASTERN GHATS

The Eastern Ghats are a discontinuous range of mountains along India's eastern coast. The southernmost of the Eastern Ghats are the low Sirumalai and Karanthamalai hills of southern Tamil Nadu. The narrow range has an average elevation of about 2,000 feet (600 metres), with peaks reaching 4,000 feet (1,200 metres) and higher
States under Eastern ghats : Odisha, Andhra pradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Telangana.
Best Mountain ranges : Deomali and daringbadi and garhjat-Odisha,  Araku Valley and papi hills-Andhra Pradesh, Pachaimalai hills, shevaroy hills and kalrayan hills -Tamil Nadu.
Rivers originated with eastern ghats : Brahmi, Godavari, Kaveri, Krishna, Mahanadi, Subarnarekha, Tungabhadra.

Best time to visit : October to March

4. THE ARAVALLI RANGE.

The Aravalli Mountain ranges are one of the oldest ranges in the world. Geologists believe that these fold mountains existed even when the Indian subcontinent separated from the Eurasian plate. A major portion of this mountain range lies in Rajasthan. Some parts of this mountain range contain thick forests and in other places have only sand and stone.
State under Aravalli range : Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi
Famous Mountain ranges :  Sambhar-Sirohi ranges, Guru Shikhar, Sambhar-Khetri ranges.
Rivers originated : Banas, Luni, Sakhi, Sabarmati.
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, heii skiing, yak safaris, hiking, gondola rides.
Best time to visit : November to February.

5. VINDHYA AND SATPURA MOUNTAIN RANGE

The Satpura and the Vindya are parallel mountain ranges that pass through the central part of the country. The Satpura mountain range is triangle shaped. The Vindhya Range is a complex, discontinuous chain of mountain ridges, hill ranges, highlands and plateau escarpments in west-central India. One of the beautiful scenario that u can't miss.
State under Vindhya and Satpura : Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra.
Mountain ranges : Vindhya hills near Champaneer end in a series of hills, which connect this mountain range with the Aravalli mountain range.
Rivers originated : Tributaries of ganga and Yamuna - Ken, Chambal, Betwa, Kali Sindh, Parbati, and Dhasan.
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, heii skiing, yak safaris, hiking, gondola rides.
Best time to visit : October and February.

6. THE KARAKORAM AND PIR PANJAL MOUNTAIN RANGE

These Karokaram and Pir panjal ranges lie to the south and north-west of the Himalayas. A major part of the Karakoram Range lies in the disputed region between India and Pakistan. There are many passes and tunnels in this mountain range. The Haji Pir Pass located in the western part of this mountain range connects Poonch and Uri. The other passes are Rohtang Pass, Sinthan Pass, Banihall Pass, and Pir Panjal Pass. Tunnels such as Jawahar Tunnel, Banihal Qazigund Road Tunnel, Atal Tunnel, and Banihal Railway Tunnel have improved accessibility to the villages and towns nestled in the Karakoram and Pir Panjal mountain range.
States under Karakoram and pirpanjal : Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal pradesh, srinagar.
Rivers originated : Sutlej, Ravi, Beas, Chenab, Indus and Shyok river valleys.

Best time to visit : March to August.

7. PURVANCHAL MOUNTAIN RANGE

The Purvanchal mountain range extends from the Himalayas toward the northeastern region of India, south of the Brahmaputra valley. The Purvanchal Range is the eastern extension of the Himalayas lying in the easternmost parts of India. These mountains are composed of sedimentary rock. They are covered with thick forests.
State under Purvanchal range : Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland.
Mountain ranges : Kohima, Patkai, Barail, Khasi–Jaintia, Naga Hills, Lushai, Manipur, and Mizoram.
Rivers originated : Lohit, Burhi Dihang, Diyung, Kusiyara, Gumti, Kaladan, Manipur, Tixu, Nantaleik, and Naurya.
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, heii skiing, yak safaris, hiking, gondola rides.
Best time to visit : July to September.

8. ZABARWAN RANGE

The Zabarwan Range is situated between Pir Panjal and Great Himalayan Range. It comes in the central part of the Kashmir valley in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The north part of Zabarwan range lies in Ganderbal and the south end lies in Pampore. Also had a rich Wild life.
States in Zabarwan range : Jammu and Kashmir.
Mountain Ranges : Madhav Range.
Rivers originated : Dal lake.
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, hiking, gondola rides.
Best time to visit : March to August.

9. EASTERN HIMALAYAS

The Eastern Himalayas can be divided into different climatic regions such as subtropical, sub-arctic, artic, and temperate. The subtropical forests cover the hills to an extent of about 2000m.This place is home to a huge diversity of animals including clouded leopard, slow loris, the Indian civet, the golden languor, the golden cat, rhinoceros, etc.
States under Eastern Himalayas : Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Assam and West Bengal
Best Mountain Ranges : Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, Mount Everest, and Kanchenjunga.
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, heii skiing, yak safaris, hiking, gondola rides
Major Rivers Originated : Indus and Brahmaputra.

10. WESTERN HIMALAYAS

Western Himalayas also known as Punjab Himalayas are the westernmost part of the vast Himalayan Mountains.  The Western Himalayas extend to the southeast region for 560 kilometers from Indus River to Sutlej River.
States under Western himalayas : Kashmir, Pakistan, Himachal pradesh.
Mountain Ranges : Great Himalayas, Zanskar Range, the Pir Panjal Range, and the Dhola Dhar Range
Rivers under Western Himalayas : Beas, Chenab, Jhelum, Sutlej, Indus, Ravi.
Things to do : Mountain biking, water rafting, trekking, heii skiing, yak safaris, hiking, gondola rides
Best time to visit : October to May
